In the AIC’s second fantasy fund manager competition, we’ve asked six journalists to select four investment trusts that they expect to perform particularly well in 2026, but would be happy to hold for the long term. Below, presenter, investor and podcaster Peter Higgins reveals which four trusts he’s selected and why he thinks they’re likely to shine this year.

BlackRock World Mining and CQS Natural Resources Growth & Income

First I have chosen two commodities trusts, BlackRock World Mining and CQS Natural Resources Growth & Income, to gain exposure to the continuing commodities supercycle, together with M&A in the mining and natural resources sector.

Rockwood Strategic

For some quality stockpicking in the UK, I have chosen Rockwood due to its manager Richard Staveley’s consistent ability to identify investments at a deep discount to their intrinsic value.

Vietnam Enterprise Investments

Finally, I have opted for some Asian exposure through this terrific trust, due to its highly skilled team and Vietnam's consistently rising GDP momentum, which jumped to an annual rate of 8% in 2025.
