If you weren’t a fund manager, what job would you do?

  • I would like to be a journalist.


What was the proudest moment of your career?

  • I feel proud each year we increase City of London’s dividend.


What was the most difficult moment of your career and why?

  • The most difficult time was late 1999/early 2000 when markets were being led by technology stocks. City of London was underperforming but recovered once the market turned in 2000.

What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?

  • Try not to worry!


How do you spend your time away from work?

  • I like going for walks with my wife. I am also an avid book reader and enjoy golf but I’m not much good.


Tell us about the last book you read or the last podcast you listened to?

  • I have just finished “A Severed Head”, which is rated as one of Iris Murdoch’s most entertaining novels. I am now reading “The Holy Fox”, the biography of Lord Halifax by Andrew Roberts.


Where was the last place you went on holiday and why?

  • I was in Southern Spain last September sightseeing in Seville, followed by a hotel resort near Marbella.


In your personal life, what would you like to achieve in the next 12 months?

  • We have been having some work done to our house and I would like it completed!
