Seven BMO investment trusts have changed their name after fund manager BMO Global Asset Management’s £615m acquisition by Columbia Threadneedle Investments.

BMO Managed Portfolio Trust, whose fund manager Peter Hewitt was a guest on our Funds Fanatic podcast last week, becomes CT Global Managed Trust. The tickers of its Income and Growth portfolios change from BMPI to CMPI and from BMPG to CMPG respectively. 

BMO Capital and Income (BCI ) also adds UK to its name to clarify its domestic focus, becoming CT UK Capital and Income (CTUK).

In doing so it takes a leaf out of the book of BMO UK High Income which becomes CT UK High Income. All three of its share classes change their tickers: the ordinary shares now trade as CHI , the B-shares as CHIB and the units shares as CHIU . 

BMO Real Estate Investments (BREI) simplifies its moniker to CT Property Trust (CTPT ) while stablemate BMO Commercial Property drops the reference to its fund manager, and adopts Balanced Commercial Property Trust which allows it to retain its BCPT ticker.

There are no changes to any of the trusts’ investment processes.

Meanwhile the group’s £4.2bn global flagship, F&C (FCIT ), the UK’s oldest investment trust launched in 1868, retains its separate brand, which it changed from Foreign & Colonial four years ago.

Columbia Threadneedle, which is owned by Ameriprise Financial in the US (AMP.N), said the addition of the 154-year-old F&C to the group would complement its Tri-Continental Corporation (TY.N), which launched 93 years ago and is the oldest closed-end fund in the US. 

TR Property (TRY ), the £1.1bn pan-European real estate securities trust managed by Marcus Phayre-Mudge, and European Assets (EAT ), the £335m high-yielding European smaller companies fund run by Sam Cosh, also retain their names.

Marrack Tonkin, head of investment trusts at Columbia Threadneedle, said the group’s six investment trust savings plans would also swap CT for BMO as their prefix.

‘Whilst there are no changes to any investment processes or managers of the investment trusts we managed, we firmly believe that the additional support and research provided through the expanded investment teams at Columbia Threadneedle will ensure we can provide even broader investment capabilities across asset classes, enabling us to continue to meet the needs of the trusts’ shareholders,’ Tonkin said.
