From Plymouth to Aberdeen, the AIC’s training programme for financial advisers and wealth managers covers thousands of miles of road, rail and airspace each year. But for those who can’t make a face-to-face event, or who find that they learn better in their dressing gown and slippers, online training can be a handy alternative.

The AIC’s new online training service, Learning Zone, currently consists of four interactive courses. Each one takes about 45 minutes and automatically generates a CPD certificate on successful completion. The training counts as structured CPD and is accredited by the CII, CISI and PFS.

The four courses are as follows:

  • An to investment companies (AIC100). A useful course for those new to investment companies, or those who need a refresher.

  • Discounts and premiums (AIC110). This course takes a detailed look at discounts and premiums, why they arise and what factors influence them, as well as assessing the implications for the investor.

  • Gearing (AIC120). Examining the maths behind gearing, the terms you need to know, and how to consider gearing in the context of client suitability.

  • The income features of investment companies (AIC130). Covers all you need to know about using investment companies for income, from the revenue reserve to alternative income-producing assets.

More courses will be added over time.

There’s no charges, no ongoing commitment. You can take the courses in any order, and take as few or as many as you like. We do recommend you use a desktop, laptop or tablet – it’s a bit fiddly on a smartphone.

To get started, visit the Learning Zone and enrol on your chosen course. You should find the instructions easy to follow, but if you have any queries, get in touch.

Finally, I know that everyone always says they want your feedback, but we do really want your feedback. Is Learning Zone easy to use? What courses would you like to see in future? There is a feedback survey at the end of each course but you can also email us anytime.

I hope you find Learning Zone useful.
