High yields, consistent income

With only a week left to make the most of your ISA allowance, the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) has revealed a list of 26 investment trusts that pay a yield of more than 5% and have not cut a dividend in the past ten years.

That includes five trusts from the Renewable Energy Infrastructure sector, with yields ranging from 9.2% to 12.5%.

There are also five trusts from the UK Equity Income sector, three from the property sectors, and three infrastructure trusts. Five of the trusts offer a double-digit yield.

To make the list, trusts needed a yield of at least 5% and a ten-year history with no year-on-year dividend cuts and a positive total return over the decade.

These trusts show that high yields and consistent income can go together.

Nick Britton, Research Director at the Association of Investment Companies (AIC), said: “These trusts show that high yields and consistent income can go together. While dividends are never guaranteed, this list could make a useful starting point for investors who are interested in a yield that’s higher than average – much higher in some cases – but still want to see a good track record of dividend payments.

“It will also be helpful for investors looking for diversification, spanning asset classes from UK and global equities to infrastructure, debt, renewable energy, property and even private equity. Investors should always do their homework before investing, and if in doubt, consult a financial adviser.”
