The Association of Investment Companies (AIC) has released details of its spring workshop programme, covering 15 locations around the UK.

The free two-hour workshops will be held between 22 April and 4 June and are designed to provide an accessible, practical introduction to investment trusts. They are aimed at financial advisers and wealth managers who want to refresh, update and deepen their knowledge of closed-ended funds.

Led by Nick Britton, Head of Intermediary Communications, and Elmley de la Cour, Communications Manager, the workshops are designed to provide two hours of structured CPD and accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) and Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI). Their learning objectives are as follows:

  • Explain the differences between investment trusts and open-ended funds, and what they mean for the investor
  • Describe the main functions of investment trusts in financial planning
  • Identify the key metrics needed to analyse investment trusts, and understand how to interpret them

Commenting on the latest series of workshops, Nick Britton, Head of Intermediary Communications at the Association of Investment Companies, said: “This is the fifth year we have run our workshops, which are designed to provide a friendly and practical introduction to investment trusts, with lots of opportunities for questions and discussion.

“Feedback from previous years has been very positive, with attendees ranking the workshops an average 4.8 out of 5 for usefulness. We’d encourage anyone who’d like to find out more about investment trusts or feels their knowledge could be improved to come along.”
