AIC launches video tutorials to help website users

The Association of Investment Companies (AIC) has produced a series of explanatory videos to help investors get the most out of the AIC’s website, theaic.co.uk. 

Nick Britton, Research Director of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC), said: “These new videos are a quick and easy way to discover some of our most useful research tools, whether you want to identify potential investments, improve your income or simply keep on top of your investment trust portfolio.”

The video tutorials are as follows:

• Compare investment companies – filter investment trusts by a range of criteria including sector or geography, then sort by different data points such as the discount, dividend yield or performance over different time periods
• Company overview – access key information about the company such as performance, research and the latest news
• Interactive chart – visually compare investment trusts to their sector or a market index 
• My portfolios: creating a portfolio – create virtual portfolios to research and track, or replicate real-life holdings in ISAs or SIPPs
• My portfolios: portfolio tools – interrogate your portfolio to identify buying opportunities or keep track of share price movements or discount levels
• My alerts – set up alerts for news about your investments, or monitor when share prices or discounts hit certain levels

The AIC’s income finder tool, explained in the ‘My portfolios’ tutorials, can be useful if you are trying to build a portfolio that pays out income each month. You can sort trusts by the months they pay their dividend in, helping you design a portfolio that pays a smooth income throughout the year.
