The Association of Investment Companies (AIC) has relaunched its Pathway website for prospective non-executive directors (NEDs) of investment trusts.

This follows the release of the annual report of the Parker Review this week.

Designed to broaden the pool of talent available to investment trust boards by encouraging more people to consider a position, Pathway features new interviews, case studies and tips from a diverse range of NEDs about how to secure a role.

Becoming a director on an investment trust is an incredibly interesting and rewarding role. Investment trusts are constantly looking for new directors and there is an array of talent out there that could bring some new perspectives to the industry.

The site helps prospective NEDs get to grips with the basics of investment trusts, as well as providing resources for learning more. In the Getting a position section, introduced by newly appointed AIC Chair Sapna Shah, experienced directors share their advice on finding vacancies, getting noticed, applying for roles, and impressing at an interview.

Sapna Shah, Chair of the Association of Investment Companies (AIC), said: “Becoming a director on an investment trust is an incredibly interesting and rewarding role. Investment trusts are constantly looking for new directors and there is an array of talent out there that could bring some new perspectives to the industry.

“One thing we hear a lot is that people don’t think they have the necessary skills, but investment trusts need a diverse range of board members with different backgrounds and skills that may not seem directly relevant at first. The only really essential attribute is a genuine interest in investment trusts. Don’t make assumptions about whether you are qualified, speak to a recruitment consultant and get some feedback. Our Pathway site is a great resource to get a feel for what is required.”

The new case studies on Pathway are Esther Gilbert, Non-Executive Director of CVC Income & Growth; Randeep Grewal, Non-Executive Director of The Global Smaller Companies Trust and Monks Investment Trust; Selina Sagayam, Chair of the ESG Committee of The Renewables Infrastructure Group; Ian Henderson, Non-Executive Director of MIGO Opportunities Trust; Dunke Afe, Non-Executive Director of BlackRock Smaller Companies and CT UK Capital and Income Investment Trust, and Dr Alison Fielding, Non-Executive Director of Maven Income and Growth VCT.
