Morning briefing: Doric Nimrod plane fund flies away after returning £142m; RTW Biotech sees Penumbra snapped up for $14.5bn; plus SDP, PAC, AJOT, GVCT, NCYF
Doric Nimrod Air Three (DNA3) has delisted after completing the £142.3m return of capital through the compulsory redemption of all its shares following the sale of its last A380 plane to Emirates Airline.
RTW Biotech Opportunities (RTW) says having benefited from this year’s first US biotech flotation of Atkis, it has now made a gain on the sector’s first bid. Boston Scientific Corporation (BSX.N) yesterday agreed to buy Penumbra (PEN.N) for $14.5bn for cash and shares at a 19.3% premium to its closing share price on Wednesday. Penumbra, a developer of drugs for cardiovascular diseases, represented 1% of RTW at 31 December. Rod Wong, chief investment officer of fund manager RTW Investments, said, “This deal shows the high level of activity in our portfolio, underscores the value being placed on differentiated technologies addressing critical unmet needs, and reflects broader momentum returning to biotech and medtech deal-making.”
Value investor City of London Investment Management has raised its stakes in Schroder Asia Pacific (SDP) from 23% to 24% and in Pacific Assets (PAC) from 12.2% to 13%.
Finnish investment company Finda Oy continues to reduce its stake in AVI Japan Opportunity (AJOT), lowering its position to 9.2% from 11.2%. It held over 21% two years ago.
Guinness VCT (GVCT), a £12.5m generalist venture capital trust, is to pay a maiden dividend of 3p per share in April as part of its policy to distribute 5% of net assets a year. A second interim dividend will be paid later in 2026.
CQS New City High Yield Fund (NCYF) has appointed Joanna Dentskevich, former head of customer valuations at Morgan Stanley, as a non-executive director on its board. Dentskevich also worked as a director of risk at Deutsche Bank and chief risk officer of a London-based hedge fund. She previously served on the boards of GCP Asset Backed Income (GABI) and EJF Investments (EJFI).
