Meet the manager: Charlotte Cuthbertson
Manager of MIGO Opportunities Trust.
If you weren’t a fund manager, what job would you do?
I think I’ve found the right job for me so I feel very lucky, which means I’m really not sure what else I would do. I really enjoy cooking so maybe something around that? But I think taking several hours and drinking wine while you stir is frowned on in most professional kitchens… maybe a private chef to a very understanding client.
What was the proudest moment of your career?
I’m not sure I can pick one. There’s been lots of smaller moments where I feel like I’ve achieved something but hopefully the best is yet to come.
This year I sold my flat and bought a house whilst relaunching MIGO so I’d be happy with a quiet 12 months if I’m honest!

What was the most difficult moment of your career and why?
The past few years have been tricky. A combination of a lot of corporate change coupled with a bear market in investment trusts has been difficult to navigate at times. But it has all come good in the end and I’m looking forward to the next few years.
What advice would you give to your 20-year-old self?
Have some confidence in yourself, it’ll turn out all right.
Away from the workplace, how do you spend your time?
I have a very active spaniel so a lot of hiking, walking, running.
Tell us about the last book you read?
I recently read Gabriel’s Moon by William Boyd. I’ve read a few of his but I think this is up there with one of my favourites he’s written. Can’t go wrong with a beautifully written spy novel.
What is your favourite film of all time and why?
So many, but I think my comfort films are the Lord of the Rings trilogy – especially if I’m feeling ill or burnt out.
In your personal life, what would you like to achieve in the next 12 months?
This year I sold my flat and bought a house whilst relaunching MIGO so I’d be happy with a quiet 12 months if I’m honest!
