AIC launches adviser seminar series: ‘Investment company innovators’
Information on four upcoming seminars for advisers across the UK.
Since the invention of the first collective fund in the UK 150 years ago, investment companies have kept innovating to meet investors’ needs. Change has come particularly thick and fast in the past two decades, with changes such as the advent of discount control policies, a move towards alternative assets, and a flurry of fee reductions that have intensified post-RDR.
To keep advisers and wealth managers abreast of how the sector is changing, the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) is running four seminars between September and November. Led by Nick Britton, Head of Training, AIC, each event will also include presentations from investment company portfolio managers. The guest speakers cover a range of sectors: some invest in innovative companies, while others have made innovative use of the investment company structure, including investment companies that have launched ‘zero discount policies’ and pay dividends from capital profits.
Offering 2 hours 15 minutes of structured CPD, each seminar aims to inform attendees about how the investment company sector is changing and deepen their understanding of the strategies used by today’s closed-ended funds. The events are free to attend but advance booking is required.
Nick Britton, Head of Training, AIC said: “Any investment product that has been around for 150 years has had to adapt and change many times. Today’s investment companies are very different from those of 100 or even 10 years ago, and the focus of our seminar series this year will be on how the sector is adapting to meet the challenges posed by a low interest rate environment, the rise of passive investing and consolidation within the wealth management industry.”
The upcoming seminars, entitled ‘Investment Company Innovators’, follow similar events last year focusing on growth strategies using investment companies.
