"We want to change the way IVF works in this country and around the world."
Praful Nargund, Director of Strategy
CREATE Fertility is an IVF clinic that offers an alternative to the drug-intensive, costly procedures used by its competitors. Its treatments include drug-free ‘natural IVF’ as well as ‘mild IVF’, where minimal drugs are deployed. The London-based company says its procedures reduce the cost of IVF as well as improving the welfare of women undergoing the treatment, without worsening the odds of success.
The business’s vision was to ‘shift the paradigm’ of IVF treatment in the UK and globally, according to director of strategy Praful Nargund. To achieve this vision, significant expansion was needed. Praful explains, ‘We needed to get the concept out to as many people as possible and ultimately to really shake the industry up.’
How VCTs helped
The Baronsmead VCTs, managed by Livingbridge, invested £5 million in CREATE Fertility in 2013. This allowed CREATE to open a new state-of-the-art fertility clinic near St Paul’s Cathedral in central London. Livingbridge also introduced a new chairman and director of finance to the company, as well as participating in working sessions with the founders of the business, where its structure and strategy were discussed and debated.
From performing around 800 IVF cycles a year before the VCT investment, CREATE now undertakes more than 1,400. In addition to its flagship St Paul’s treatment centre, which has the capacity to oversee up to 4,000 cycles of fertility treatment a year, it continues to operate its two original clinics in Harley Street and West Wimbledon, and recently opened a satellite clinic in Bristol. There are further plans to continue CREATE's geographical expansion.
