Revised proposals to modernise investment company tax legislation published

HM Treasury has published revised proposals in respect of the modernisation of the investment trust tax rules.

Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive passes into EU Law

The Alternative Investment Fund Managers (AIFM) Directive has been approved by the European Parliament.  These rules will be applied to AIC Members in early 2013.  Before then, a significant challenge remains in agreeing the details of how the rules will apply and how they will be transposed into the UK’s own rulebook. 

European Commission to standardise investment product sales process

The European Commission is consulting on proposals to standardise the sales process for investment products through the Packaged Retail Investment Products (PRIPs) initiative.  It has set out a proposed legislative approach and the contents of a possible regime for product disclosures.

Government publishes further views on providing finance to UK SMEs

The Government has responded to the feedback it received from its consultation on the provision of business finance.  The document gives its general support to VCTs and pledges to establish a network of ‘growth hubs’.

Vince Cable consults on corporate governance and equity markets

A new consultation paper from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills considers a comprehensive reassessment of the interaction between shareholders and companies in equity markets.

The Government announces a new child savings scheme

Treasury Minister Mark Hoban MP has announced that from 2011 parents will be able to open a ‘Junior ISA’ to save for their children.
