Graham Campbell to depart Edinburgh Partners

Edinburgh Partners co-founder and head of UK equities Graham Campbell is to depart the company after a sustained period of underperformance on his funds.

The company is to close its UK institutional offering. The fund has just £2.9 million under management and has returned 2.9% since launch in 2004 versus a 6.7% index.

Returns have been little better over the shorter term. It is down 10.5% over two years versus a 6.1% loss on its FTSE All Share index.

Management of his other portfolios, including the Anglo & Overseas trust and parts of the HSBC Income and HSBC Income and Growth funds, has been transferred to fellow co-founder Dr Sandy Nairn.

Edinburgh Partners legal director Kenny Greig said: 'We have always been predominantly a global manager and we will now be focussing on that. We will continue to manage UK equities but will do so in an international context.'

Nairn and Campbell were previously chief investment officer and head of UK retail respectively at SWIP, before departing in 2003 to set up their own venture.

The international side of the business has been recognised as the most successful, gathering around £6 billion in assets.

Most recently, it won the contract to manage the £292 million Foreign & Colonial Eurotrust from F&C in early December.
