Caledonia chief tipped to be next Collins Stewart chairman

Caledonia Investments chief executive Tim Ingram has been appointed non-executive director at Collins Stewart and has been tipped to eventually replace Terry Smith (above) as chairman of the stockbroking firm.

Ingram, who was managing director of Abbey National, has been chief executive at the investment trust since 2002. He is also a senior independent non-executive director at IT firm Sage and property services firm Savills.

Smith announced his intention to step down from the firm last May and said it planned to recruit two non-executive directors, one of which would be his replacement.

Both the Times and Financial Times have tipped Ingram to be Smith's replacement.

Collins Stewart has also appointed Paul Hewitt as chairman of its audit committee. Hewitt is currently non-executive chairman of Portrait Software and is also a non-executive director of Co-operative Financial Services and Kiln Group.

He is also a non-executive director of the Personal Accounts Delivery Authority, the public body responsible for setting up a national trust based pension scheme focused on employees with low to average earnings.
